The ‘poor traveler’ who survived the typhoon in the Philippines
Posted February 02, 2019 06:29:17The poor traveler in the Philippine island of Bicol, who survived typhoon Tepalu, was rescued by a group of volunteers and members of the military.
The volunteer group, which includes members of Bictu and the Bicolian National Guard, rescued the man from the coastal town of Tampico in the north of the country on Saturday.
The man, who was carrying a bag of food and other household items, was heading back to the town of Bijagup on the northern island of Mindanao when the typhoons arrived, the Bictuan National Guard said in a Facebook post.
He was also injured in the rescue, the group said.
The typhoon damaged at least 13 buildings, destroyed roads, and left many homes without power.
In the coastal city of Negros Occidental, the typhoid killed at least 30 people and left thousands without shelter.
